It was said to be unfilmable: Frank Herbert’s sci-fi novel series Dune. But in 2021, Canadian director Denis Villeneuve proved it could be done with his highly acclaimed and award-winning Dune: Part One. In this second instalment, the story centred on Paul Atreides continues. As with the first film, Villeneuve co-wrote the screenplay with Jon Spaihts. Timothée Chalamet reprises the lead role, supported by an all-star cast including Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Javier Bardem, Charlotte Rampling and Josh Brolin. Hans Zimmer also composed the music for this second instalment.
Baron Harkonnen has finally succeeded in bringing down House Altreides. Paul Altreides (Chalamet) is bent on revenge and is aided in this by his concubine Chani and the Fremen, the original inhabitants of the desert planet Arrakis, the place where the precious ‘spice’ is found. Paul faces a terrible dilemma, forcing him to choose between love and the fate of the universe, a fate known only to him.
